The Special Things of Huay Kaew Waterfall
This is a special waterfall you can find in the north of Thailand. This waterfall is really lovely and located in the countryside area of Doi Suthep, Doi Pui Mountain Range National Park (near the Chiang Mai Zoo and Doi Suthep Mountain Thailand).
This magnificent waterfall is really impressive during and after rainy season because the water debit is really high. So, you can see how the water falls beautifully.
Besides that, the area is also still natural. You can see a lot of small mammals, birds, vegetation, rocks and trees. Unfortunately, this wonderful waterfall is not too popular and the location is hidden enough. That is why it is quiet enough. So, this can be a perfect place to refresh mind.
What to Explore
At the waterfall entrance, you will find some stalls that sell snacks and drinks. You can drop in for a while to eat some snacks or drink some beverages before going to the main area of waterfall. Along the way, you can sit and rest for a while, take pictures or just relax while enjoying the view around the waterfall that is really peaceful.
After you get to the waterfall, you can play with the water. Because the base pool is deep enough, you can go swimming there. However, the water is very cold. So, you cannot play in the water too long.
The waterfall is very nice to see either from far or from close up. At this spot, you can climb up to the fall top on the either side. You can walk up from on the left side, away from the cliff. On the right, you can scramble up the rocks. However, you should be careful because the rocks may be slippery.
How to Get There
If you are interested to visit Namtok Huay Kaew, you have to know how to get there. It is not difficult and it takes about 15 to 30 minutes only by taxi from the city center. The cost will be around 30 to 40 bath by minivan and about 100 baths by 3-wheeler “tuk tuk” taxis.
Alternatively, you can consider hiring a motorbike & drive by your own to the location. The location is on Huay Kaew road, near Chiang Mai Zoo.
Huay Kaew Waterfall is suitable for everyone including family and kids. What makes it more interesting is the free entry fee. It means you do not need to pay at all. However, you have to visit when the weather is fine. It should be in the morning or afternoon. You also must avoid visiting the waterfall when it is rain because it has a high risk of overflow.
